YOUR ATHANTO COMPANION

Evolution items and held items

An evolution item can change your team. Check whether to use it from your bag or let your Pokemon hold it for a level-up.

Use it or hold it?

Follow the instruction on your Pokemon’s page. “Use” means an item evolution. “Level up while holding” means it must hold the item when it gains a level. A held-item method does not add a trade requirement.

Check your location

Poliwhirl holding King’s Rock follows its Blazing Path evolution there; its Politoed method applies elsewhere. Magneton’s location evolution takes priority in Mt. Thunder and Peak of Kings; its Metal Coat method applies elsewhere.

Evolution didn’t happen?

Everstone and Eviolite prevent level-up evolution. Check the held item and the full condition on the Pokemon’s page.

Item sources and access to special locations are still being explored.
